For a two-metre sofa, begin by testing an artwork arrangement about 130–150 cm wide. This is a styling trial, not a required proportion. The useful measurement is the complete arrangement, including frames and the space between them.

Measure what the eye will see

Record the sofa's outside width, the clear wall above it and the positions of lamps, windows and switches. A sofa under a narrow wall recess may need a smaller composition than the furniture width suggests. Mark the arrangement at full scale before choosing a size.

Arrangement Worked width What to check
One landscape 140 cm outer width Whether that actual size is offered
Two portrait works 65 + 8 + 65 = 138 cm Both outer frames plus the gap
One smaller work 90 cm outer width Whether the deliberate open wall feels right

These are planning examples, not Maison Remea product dimensions. Never order a nominal canvas size expecting it to equal the outside of a framed arrangement.

Choose a composition, not just a width

A landscape such as Bellagio Blue Hour gives the wall one continuous field of colour. Two different works introduce a pause between images. If a suitable wide single piece is unavailable, a carefully selected pair can be a considered alternative; repeating the same print is not necessary.

Run the seated test

Use paper templates and wall-safe temporary attachment, then look from the entrance and from the opposite chair. Check that people can sit and lean back without contacting the work. Move a floor lamp into its normal position. If its shade overlaps the image, adjust the arrangement before making holes.

Keep the template up through an evening. A size that looks commanding in daylight may feel crowded once curtains close. Choose the arrangement you enjoy living with, rather than the largest one the wall can physically hold.
