Maison Remea is an online art studio based in Australia. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and share personal information when you browse our Shopify store, place an order, request a painting or trade quotation, or contact us. Personal information means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you.
For privacy questions or requests, use our contact form. Maison Remea is responsible for the personal information we handle for our business, including as a data controller where applicable.
Information we collect
- Contact and order details: your name, email, billing and delivery addresses, telephone number where provided, purchases, delivery instructions, returns and correspondence.
- Payment information: payment status, transaction references and payment details made available by our payment providers. Payment credentials are processed through the checkout and payment providers. Please do not send card numbers or security codes by email or through our contact form.
- Account and preference information: account details, saved preferences and marketing or privacy choices.
- Enquiries and project material: messages, artwork preferences, dimensions, budgets, project locations and photographs or files you choose to send for room advice, trade projects, commissions or order support. Only send information you have permission to share, and avoid including unnecessary personal or sensitive details.
- Website activity: IP address, approximate location, browser and device details, cookie identifiers, pages and products viewed, cart activity and interactions with the store.
We collect information directly from you, automatically through Shopify and website technologies, and from providers handling payments, production, delivery and support. You can make a general enquiry without providing a full name, but we need sufficient contact and delivery information to fulfil an order or respond to a request.
How we use information
We use personal information to process payments and orders; arrange production and delivery; prepare quotations and commissions; provide advice and support; manage returns and complaints; maintain accounts and preferences; understand and improve the store; detect fraud and protect security; and meet legal, tax and accounting requirements.
Project photographs and commission details help us assess your request and coordinate the work. We will seek your permission before using photographs you supply of your home or project in our public marketing.
We may send promotional communications where you have consented or applicable law otherwise permits. You can unsubscribe using the link in a marketing email or contact us. Order updates and other essential service messages may still be sent.
Who receives information
We share information relevant to the services provided with:
- Shopify, which hosts our store and supports checkout and store operations;
- payment providers and fraud prevention services;
- printing, weaving, painting and fulfilment partners, including Prodigi where used for your order, and delivery carriers;
- providers supporting email, customer service, storage, website analytics and, where used, advertising; and
- professional advisers, authorities or other parties where necessary to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, protect rights or manage a business transfer.
Production and delivery partners may receive your name, delivery address, contact details and relevant order or commission information to make and ship your work. Information may also be shared when you specifically request or authorise it.
Shopify and advertising
Shopify processes information to operate and improve its services. Where we use Shopify enhanced services, Shopify may combine information about interactions with our store with information from other merchants and Shopify to support features such as personalisation, fraud prevention and advertising. Shopify is responsible for processing for its own purposes and for related privacy requests. See the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and Shopify privacy portal.
Disclosure of online identifiers or browsing activity for personalised advertising may be treated as a sale, sharing or targeted advertising under some privacy laws, even without a payment for that information. Where these rights apply, use Your Privacy Choices or contact us to request an opt-out. As described on that page, Global Privacy Control signals are treated as opt-out requests for the relevant browser and device where applicable.
Cookies and your choices
Our store uses cookies and similar technologies for functions such as the shopping cart, checkout, security and remembering preferences. Depending on the services enabled and your choices, these technologies may also support analytics and advertising.
Use the cookie banner or privacy controls, where displayed, to manage optional cookies. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser, although some store functions may be affected. Choices may need to be repeated on other browsers or devices. You can contact us about consent or use Your Privacy Choices for applicable advertising opt-outs.
Information handled overseas
Our providers may store or process information outside Australia. Shopify identifies Canada and Singapore among its processing locations and publishes a current list of service providers and locations. Production and shipping may involve recipients in the United States and in the countries where your order is made or delivered.
Where required, overseas transfers must use appropriate safeguards. For information subject to European or UK transfer rules, these may include an adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses or another legally permitted mechanism. Contact us for information about the recipients and safeguards relevant to your order.
Storage, security and retention
Information is held in Shopify and the systems used by our service providers, as well as our business records and correspondence. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access or disclosure. No website, email service or storage system is completely secure.
We retain information for as long as needed for the purposes described above, including orders, accounts, support, accounting, legal obligations and disputes. Retention depends on the information and applicable requirements. Information no longer needed will be deleted or de-identified, subject to lawful retention requirements.
Your privacy rights
You can contact us to request access to or correction of your personal information. Depending on the laws that apply, you may also have rights to deletion, a portable copy, restriction of processing, objection to certain uses, withdrawal of consent, or an opt-out from sale, sharing or targeted advertising. These rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions. Withdrawing consent does not affect earlier lawful processing.
Where European or UK data protection law applies, we rely on performing a contract or taking steps you request before a contract, legal obligations, legitimate interests in operating and protecting our business where those interests are not overridden by your rights, and consent where required for marketing or optional tracking.
To make a request, use our contact form. We may reasonably verify your identity and an authorised representative's authority. We will respond within applicable legal timeframes and explain any lawful refusal. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
Questions and complaints
Please contact us with the details of any privacy concern. We will review it, seek any information needed and explain our response. We aim to respond to complaints within 30 days, or sooner where the law requires, and will let you know if more time is needed.
If your concern remains unresolved, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where it has jurisdiction, or the relevant privacy regulator where you live. Where applicable law provides a right to appeal our decision, contact us to request a review.
Children and external websites
Our store is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child has supplied information, a parent or guardian can contact us to request its removal, subject to applicable law. Other websites linked from our store have their own privacy practices; review their policies before providing information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our store, services or legal requirements change. The current version will appear here with its update date, and we will provide additional notice or seek consent where required.
